SOLON, Ohio, June 22, 2014 – Mike Skeen, driver of the No. 2 Hawk Performance Audi R8 Ultra, achieves two consecutive GT class Podium Finishes this weekend in Round 7 and 8 of the Pirelli World Challenge season at the Cadillac Grand Prix at Road America. This weekend marks Skeen’s seventh and eighth wins in the Pirelli World Challenge Series, his first win since last season’s Round 8 at Lime Rock Park.
The pivotal moment in this winning weekend began during Friday’s Lap 15 where Skeen secured a first place pole position through an over-under move in turn 12, Canada Corner as the Hawk Performance Audi R8 powered passed Andy Pilgrim, of Boca Raton, Fla. in the Cadillac Racing Cadillac CTS-V.R. Skeen led the remaining nine laps of the race and won Round 7 by 1.838 seconds.
“Our strong spot was getting a run out of the Kink into Canada,” Skeen said. “That lap he pinched too much; I got a nice over-under, then side-by-side through 13. Andy’s awesome to race against and a very gentlemanly racer. Both him and Johnny are so professional, and easy to race.”
The winning move in Saturday’s Round 8 was again followed out by Skeen during Lap 12 as he passed Johnny O’Connell, of Flowery Branch, GA., in the No. 3 Cadillac Racing Cadillac CTS-V.R. on Turn 5.
Skeen, CRP Racing and the Hawk Performance Audi R8 will return to compete in Rounds 9 and 10 of the Pirelli World Challenge GT class competition at the Honda Indy Toronto race weekend, July 18-20.
