On July 7, 2012, Carlisle Companies Inc. hosted ten active duty United States Marines and their spouses during the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. Carlisle is a sponsor of the Penske Racing No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger driven by Brad Keselowski. The Carlisle logo, which is typically prominently displayed on Keselowski’s car, was replaced for the weekend with the United States Marine Corp logo to honor the Marines in attendance that were representing U.S. Marines worldwide and those who have served before them.
The Marines took part in race day activities including pace car rides around Daytona International Speedway, a private meet and greet with Brad Keselowski, attendance at the drivers’ meeting, driver introductions, and were Carlisle’s guests of honor at the race.
Keselowski, long noted for his contributions to helping wounded servicemen and servicewomen through his Checkered Flag Foundation, was proud to have the United States Marine Corps logo on his car over the weekend. “It’s an honor to have the Marine Corps riding along with me on the most patriotic of days, the Fourth of July. These are the true heroes in my book. The freedoms they provide us allow us to drive racecars for a living. Hopefully we can celebrate with them in Victory Lane.” Keselowski finished eighth in the Coke Zero 400 and thus moved to ninth place in the Sprint Cup Series driver and owner point standings.
Carlisle’s Chairman & CEO David A. Roberts, a United States Marine Corps veteran, saw this honor as a great opportunity to give thanks to those who currently serve and those who have served. “This is our small way of thanking them for their service. We welcome the opportunity to show our gratitude by giving them this experience to truly be part of a Sprint Cup Series event.”
