Carlisle Brake & Friction’s Continued Success in the Renewable Energy Market

Carlisle traditionally has been focused on meeting the needs of wind’s biggest and most innovative wind turbine manufacturers around the globe. Recent additions to the product line enable Carlisle to offer a complete line of brake products specifically designed for the Kilowatt (kW) class wind market, highlighted by a recent partnership with C+F Green Energy.

C+F Green Energy is part of the globally renowned C+F Group first established in 1989 in Galway, Ireland with over 1,400 employees in multiple manufacturing locations. The focus of C+F Green Energy is on designing and manufacturing innovative wind turbines to provide a more powerful wind energy solution for the home, farm and business owner.

After developing an initial prototype machine with in-house brakes built from commonly available spare parts, C+F started researching brake manufacturers capable of supplying a complete solution.  C+F contacted Carlisle in November 2009 looking for a technical brake solution for its 6kW Wind Turbine in which the Carlisle application engineering team recommended a brake model for initial trials. To simplify purchasing and logistical requirements, Carlisle and C+F have worked together to utilize the same braking platform through the development cycle of the wind turbines.

Phil Rhead, Director of EMEA Sales and Marketing, commented, “During the last few years it has been a pleasure to work with C&F’s technical team on the development of their Wind Turbine Range.  They are pioneering the development of kW class Wind Turbines with MW standard engineering.”
